Multiphase Flow 2011 — 6th International Conference on Computational and Experimental Methods in Multiphase and Complex Flow

15 Jun 2011 - 17 Jun 2011; Kos, Greece

abstract: Multiphase flow remains one of the most challenging areas of computational mechanics and experimental methods with numerous problems remaining unsolved to date. Multiphase flows are found in all areas of technology, atall length scales and flow regimes. The fluids involved can be compressible or incompressible, linear or nonlinear. Because of the complexity of the problems, it is often essential to utilize advanced computational and experimental methods to solve the equations that describe them. Challenges in these simulations include modelling and tracking interfaces, dealing with multiple length scales, modelling nonlinear fluids, treating drop breakup and coalescence, characterizing phase structures, and many others. Experimental techniques, although expensive and difficult to perform, are essential to validate models. This conference aims to bring together modellers, computational scientists and experimentalists to share experiences, successes, new methodologies and in general to promote the advancement of this important area of fluid mechanics.

topics: Bubble and drop dynamics,Flow in porous media, Turbulent flow, Multiphase flow simulation, Image processing, Heat transfer, Interface behaviour, Small scale phenomena, Atomization, Liquid film behaviour

25th SPPT — 25th Symposium on Plasma Physics and Technology

18 Jun 2012 - 21 Jun 2012; Prague, Czech Republic

abstract: The Symposium on Plasma Physics and Technology has a long tradition and is usually held biennially. This will be the 25th Symposium. It was originally founded for the presentation of results of the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences (IPP CAS) in 1967. Since 1969 it has gradually become a Czechoslovak forum in this branch and many famous foreign scientists have made presentations. Till 1992 the Symposium was organized by IPP CAS itself at Liblice Castle. Since 1993 it has been held in co-operation with the Department of Physics, Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Czech Technical University (FEE CTU) in Prague. Since 2000 the Proceedings were published in Czechoslovak Journal of Physics till journal dissolution in 2006. There was no proceedings in the traditional sense in 2008, but authors were encouraged to send their papers to European Physical Journal D, and a EPJD topical issue based on SPPT contributions was published in 2009. In 2010 the topical issue of Acta Technica based on SPPT contributions was published, too. The symposium is of the European importance. There will be about 200-250 participants.

topics: Tokamaks and other magnetic confinement devices, Short lived plasmas (plasma focus, z-pinch, particle beam – plasma interaction, X-ray sources), Laser plasma, Non-equilibrium low temperature plasma, Thermal plasmas, Plasma technology, Fundamental plasma physics, Plasma theory and simulation
